Avoid This Twitter Marketing Faux Pas

If you plan on doing some twitter marketing, you would do well to set up a separate account for it. Don’t mess up your personal account. For example, I have twitter.com/davesherwin, my personal account, and I use it for what it is, a personal account. Here’s how I use it:

-I follow whoever I want to.
-I don’t “auto-follow” people that follow me
-I post whatever I want to, no agenda, nothing for sale (with rare exceptions, like promoting a webinar or something)
-I follow sports stars, celebrities, and other interesting Tweeters, along with friends and family
-I don’t use any automation. No automated posts, no auto-followers, auto-content posters, or anything else that starts with “auto.”

For marketing purposes, I have a different account, twitter.com/escapethematrix.

With this account, I do market stuff, but I also post personal development quotes, and interesting news, factoids, etc. Here’s how I have it set up:

-I do auto-follow people that follow me
-I follow other marketers, and people that I think are likely to buy my stuff
-I have automated systems that do targeted following, in order to build my followers
-I publicize lots of business stuff, including links, webinars, and affiliate offers

Can you see how different these two accounts are? Well, guess what, your followers will see the difference too. And they will appreciate you’re honesty. For example, some people set up personal accounts, with a personal bio, then spam you like crazy. That’s not appreciated. On the other hand, if your bio says you’re a marketer (like on my marketing account) and you market to them, they aren’t offended.

As a matter of fact, if they expect a lot of marketing, but instead you give them a ton of VALUE, then you really hit a home run, and will get responses when you actually “go for the close.”

Wishing you success in your twitter marketing, Dave.

P.S. I’m quite proud of myself for using the word Faux Pas in a sentence, I don’t think I’ve ever done that before.
