Marketing List Management For Dummies

I had another marketing list management discussion yesterday with a Lighthouse Marketing System client. We are in discussions about them using the Lighthouse Marketing System as their marketing list management system.

There are three partners involved in the decision, two of them absolutely get it, but one of them doesn’t see the need for either the internet, or an online database tool for each distributor.

Kind of like the wagon maker that didn’t see a need to change professions when Henry Ford started putting a car in front of every home.

I’m still amazed at how few marketers “get it” when it comes to having a Database. Their people have “lists” on sticky notes, legal pads, and napkins. They can’t e-mail their list, they lose names, they have no good follow up procedures: in short, they have the most ineffective list management tools possible, and their leaders don’t see a problem with it.

Oh, and these same leaders get up on stage and say, “Treat it like a business!” Right!

Question: How can you “treat it like a business” when you aren’t even managing your single most important asset, your list, with any level of respect!? How can you treat it like a business if you aren’t prospecting online?

A better question for YOU, dear reader, is “Am I using the best possible technology to create leads, manage leads, and communicate with them?

Can you send an e-mail, RIGHT NOW, to any segment of your list? Can you easily review your Hot Prospects? Can you instantly see what websites they have visited, and retrieve any information you have collected, such as phone numbers, e-mail addresses, spouse info, etc.?

If you don’t like the answers to these questions, shrink your technology gap RIGHT NOW and get yourself a great system!
