If Walt Disney was a marketer
I just finished Walt Disney’s biography. Great book! He was a man that accomplished a LOT in his life and his name is now known throughout the world. Here are some “Cliff Notes” that can be applied to those of us making our living in the online network marketing world:
-He didn’t “go for the money”, but he followed his heart and his passion. The money came as a natural by product of his passion, not as a focus.
-He failed MANY TIMES, but never gave up. For 30 YEARS he lived in debt, and from “film to film”, but then achived massive financial success with the opening of Disney Land.
-Most of his visions failed at first. Even Disneyland had a rocky start. Opening day was one of the worst experiences of his life, the park was not ready for such a large crowd, they ran out of food and drinks, and had no water fountains at the time. The pavements
weren’t yet cured, and womens heels dug into it. Lines for a ride were hours long, and employees weren’t efficient at getting people on and off quickly.
It was later referred to as “Black Sunday”. But six months later he was rich.
-He never listened to his critics, who told him:
“Cartoons will never make it as feature length films”
“Nobody will like a Mouse character”
“Cartoons can’t be made in color”
“You shouldn’t build a theme park, you don’t know anything about them. Disneyland will fail”
And on and on. He never listened. He just followed his own heart, his own passion, and moved forward RELENTLESSLY until he accomplished his goals.
-He surrounded himself with great people. Without his brother Roy, he says he never would have done what he did. Walt was the visionary, Roy was the wise sage with his feet on the ground. TOGETHER they took on the world.
Walt Disney had a lot more adversity than success in his life. Nothing came easy. Nothing came quickly. But he kept going, and going, and going, and going…
…and FINALLY success came. AFTER the bankruptcy. AFTER the great depression. AFTER long periods of debt and uncertainty.
Contrast that to the “quick fix”, “instant success” mentality of the current online network marketing world. If people don’t see instant results, they’re gone. If something is difficult, they avoid it. When opportunities for training, mastermind sessions, and webinars come up, they choose to watch TV.
Times have changed, technology has changed, but principles don’t change. Guts, determination, vision and persistence are still requirements for success.
Luckily for us, we CAN have financial success much quicker than Walt Disney did. We can access millions of customers online in a way he just couldn’t.
So next time you (and me!) “Wish upon a star” I hope we are willing to back that dream with “intestinal fortitude” and stick with it as long as it takes
And, hey, I’m not against making the process as fast as possible! That’s why I use the Lighthouse Marketing system:
