Are Directory Submissions Dead?
I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent a LOT of time submitting my URL’s to Directory’s. Directory Submissions used to be imperative for site owners, but lately I’ve been questioning, and researching, whether it’s still worth it.
The fact is, not as many people actually use Directories as they used to. And one of the benefits of Directories used to be the direct traffic they generated. And realistically, with the rise of Google, Directories and Directory submissions as a method of generating traffic have gone down.
So if you do some online research, as I have, you will quickly find that there is a healthy debate about whether submitting your site to Directories is even worthwhile. But in the end, I don’t think they’re dead.
The purpose is just different now. While direct traffic from directories has definitely gone down, the value of one way back links has gone up. Sites with few back links simply can’t compete with those that have a lot. As a matter of fact, you can’t find an SEO Guru out there who doesn’t claim that more is better, and every one of them has a linking strategy.
So the idea now with Directory submissions is simple: Do it for one reason and one reason only- easy, one way back links to your site. And if you get some extra traffic along the way, consider that a bonus. But generally speaking, the traffic won’t come from the directories themselves, rather it will come from Google, Yahoo and MSN as they raise your site in the rankings because of all the quality back links you have coming in.

Actually Spencer it’s included in the Gold and Platinum packages. You are a Gold member of the Social Marketing Blackbox, so all you have to do it use the Personal Webmaster form to indicate which site you want the submissions for, and we do it for you! And it doesn’t use any of your hours
