How To Create A Channel On Youtube
Want to create a channel on youtube? It’s easy, even for a 40+ wannabe geek like me. Creating your own custom channel allows you to differentiate yourself by having a unique page designed with your own look and feel. You can see what I did here:

I actually did it all by myself, I didn’t even need my kids to help me. Wow. You can probably tell how proud I am of myself. But enough about me! Let me tell you step by step how to create your own channel on youtube.
All youtube accounts include a channel. But it’s BORING! Lame! It needs work!
So here’s what you do:
Preparation: Open a youtube account, and fill in a COMPLETE profile, including a picture of yourself. If you’re a marketer, DON’T be obnoxious and put a picture of your product or a pile of cash or something- use a real picture of yourself. Even if you think you’re ugly. People like people that are REAL. Throw your self conscious baggage out the window and show yourself!
Creating your channel on youtube:
Step 1: Log into youtube.com
Step 2: Click on the “Account” icon in the upper right, then choose the More option.
Step 3: On the left, under the “My Channel” heading, choose the Channel Design option.
Step 4: Choose a theme. This is really just the color scheme. Choose the colors you like best.
Step 5: Choose the “Layout Properties.” This is where you choose what boxes you want to display, just go ahead and choose all the options you want. As you make changes, they will be reflected on the right side of the screen, so you can see how it will look when you’re done.
Step 6: Advanced Design options. Here you can choose things like specialized color schemes, background images, etc. I have an avatar I used as a background, and was even able to adjust the background transparency so that my avatar shows through. That did require me to change the color of the font though so you could still read it. Just play around with these settings until it looks good to you. If you want a custom background image but don’t have one handy, go to www.photobucket.com or www.blingee.com to get yourself an image. When you’re done designing, hit the Update Channel icon in the lower left.
Step 7: Take note of your video channel URL so you can show off your new channel! Just click on the “Channel Info” icon in the My Account area and your URL will display at the very top of the window. It will look something like mine:

Now all of the videos you create can show up in your channel, along with any other videos of you choose! It’s a great way to show off your own videos, and display them in a unique way that doesn’t look just like every other boring page on youtube.
To your success,
