But did you know it’s possible to get traffic to a website within the first 24 hours, and get it indexed by Google that fast as well?

There are three things I want to accomplish when I publish a website:

1.    Get it indexed in the search engines.
2.    Get free traffic to it.
3.    Make money!

To accomplish all three of these things as quickly as possible, here is a short list of easy things you can do. Before you start, make sure your site is set up with sharing tools, so that when visitors do arrive, they can share it with their friends and followers as well, getting you viral growth and sales!

If you don’t know how to build a site, or get it worked on easily and inexpensively, just use the Social Marketing Blackbox. (You could have every technical item I mention in the video done for $67, including the site creation, automation, etc!)

1. Social Bookmark it. Use one (or all!) of the social bookmark sites. This isn’t an article on social bookmarking, so I’ll keep it simple, just use stumbleupon dot com and bookmark your site, entering all your sites keywords, and a good description. This will not only get your site indexed quickly, but can get it some natural traffic too! (not to get too overly promotional here, but Blackbox members get their stuff bookmarked automatically as well

2. Create a Hub Page about the primary subject of your website. Hub Pages is like a cross between an article directory and a website. You can add pictures to your new “hub,” as well as videos, comment boxes, and even make money from their advertising. Most importantly for our purposes, hubpages gives us a geat link back to our new site!

3. Announce it on Facebook! Don’t do it in a “salesy” way, or you’ll tick off your friends. But a simple announcement like “Hey, check out my new website! I’d love to get your feedback on it…” is a perfectly legitimate way to not only announce your site, but to get some constructive feedback on it.

1.    Tweet it! Let your followers know it’s out there. But don’t expect that one Tweet to do the job. Set up your site so that every time you post to it a new Tweet is automatically sent to your followers.

5. Send an e-mail to your opt-in subscribers. If you don’t have an opt-in list, just send an e-mail to everybody in your address book, similar to the post you made on Facebook.

If you follow these four steps within the first few hours of your site launch, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how quickly your site gets indexed and gets natural traffic. From there, make sure and check your analytics every day to see how well it’s converting. Don’t be discouraged if the sales don’t pour in, internet marketing is much more of a “ground war” than most Guru’s represent. But if you follow these steps your site is well on it’s way to making you money!

One of my consulting clients started using it to upload their webinar slides prior to webinars, because their customers often asked for a copy of the slides. To their great surprise, some of their slides were viewed thousands of times naturally online, in addition to those customers that downloaded it for the webinars. Slideshare turned out to be a great source of traffic, and was easy to do, as they had to create the slides anyway.

And like the plumber that has leaks, I have taught others to use slideshare while never even opening an account for myself until today! But I’m changing my ways, and taking all of the powerpoint presentations I have created, and uploading them to slide share to get some free exposure and traffic.

Some tips on slideshare:

1. Review your slides, keeping in mind that they will have to stand alone. In other words, when I prepare a slideshow for a webinar, I assume my attendees will both see my slides and hear my voice, so I don’t put much detail on the slides. But prior to uploading to slideshare, you have to fill in the details so the slides make sense by themselves.

2. Always start your description with your link. For example, if you click on the links above they go to my slideshare account, and you can see what I’ve uploaded. Check the description box and you’ll see how I start with a link to the site I’m trying to drive traffic to.

3. Add the URL you are promoting to the bottom of every slide, or to the last slide, with an invitation to visit the site.

4. Do what my client did, and before or after you do a webinar, make the slides available to your listeners. They will appreciate it, and get more out of the presentation. Many will actually print it off and follow along while you talk!

5. Embed your slides on your blog or website if you want to create a simple online presentation without audio, like so:

That’s about it. It’s easy, quick, and free! So if you already have slides wasting space on your computer somewhere, why not put them to good use and throw them online? It only takes a few minutes, and can get you some backlinks and free traffic.

P.S. Within 10 minutes of posting the slideshow shown above, it had 29 views! So the results can be very quick!

My competitors probably didn’t realize they didn’t have a chance. Often, my connections were so solid that the only reason contractors got other bids was because their customer required it, or they wanted to make sure my prices were OK. But at the end of the day, I got the jobs because the contractors knew me, and had some level of confidence in the product and service I would provide.

I sold that business and my path eventually lead to online marketing, which was often a matter of sending high quantities of e-mail, or generating tons of SEO traffic, or creating a great PPC campaign. The marketer sat at the computer and basically blasted as many messages, in as many ways as possible.

But today, all that’s changed, and Social Marketing rules the day. Basically, marketing has come full circle, people buy from the person they know like, and trust, and they resent the “spammy” marketer that just blasts out a bunch of marketing messages.

But there’s a major difference between networking online and networking locally. In my 90′s business, I was limited to building relationships with people in my local area. Today, I can network with people all over the globe through Facebook, Twitter, my blog, etc.

The key now is to learn how to make social connections: as many as you can, as fast as you can, in as many places as possible.

The moral of the story? Networking isn’t dead, it’s more important than ever. But it will be ruled by those who understand and embrace social media in the right way.
